Akwi Memorial Foundation (AMF)

Presently, the Organization is working on a pilot project named Tugi Silvo Pastoral Project (TUSIP) in the village of Tugi, Momo Division, North West Region implemented in collaboration with CATIE a Costarican Based Non Governmental Organization with funding from the World Bank. The project seeks to find sustainable solutions to the chronic problems of farmer grazer conflicts and environmental degradation. There is also a gender mainstreaming component of the project which target women as central to the protection of the environment. With over grazing contributing to environmental degradation, the project encourages farmers to practice zero grazing while keeping small ruminants. Also presently the foundation is offering scholarship to Students pursuing health education at St Louis Higher

Purpose of Organization:

The focus of the foundation’s work is poverty reduction; gender equality and mainstreaming; social equity and social inclusion; environmental protection; mother and child health including, education for all and climate change. The use of participatory methodology and the espousal of science-based decision making are central to AMF work in its effort to complement Cameroon Government development policy goals.

Experience:

Akwi Memorial Foundation in collaboration with CATIE , with funding from the World Bank, has registered the following achievements in 3 focal areas of the GEF(Environmental degradation, climate Change and Biodiversity) in Momo Division of Cameroon. This Include the following;
•         Renovation or rehabilitation of degraded pastures
•       Implementation of rotational grazing strategies
•       Establishment of multi-strata live fences
•       Alley cropping with pastures either for grazing or cut & carry
•       Management of forage banks
•       Raising sheep and goats in elevated pens receiving cut & carry forages
•       Preparation and use of multi-nutrient blocks
•       Development and management of nurseries
•       Climate change education
