SOUTH ASIAN FORUM FOR ENVIRONMENT (SAFE)

SAFE is in consultative status with ECOSOC and is a major stakeholder to UNEP receiving the UNEP Eco Peace Leadership Award 2010. It is accredited by the Ministry of Planning Govt of India and is in the advisory council to the Planning Commission of India. It is also in the Core competency group of National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development of India and partners with Ministry of Environment in national Environmental awareness campaign. It has been accredited by IAIA (US) British ecological Society (UK) and Society for Conservation Biology and Society for Restoration Ecology International (US). It has the credit of succesfully installing and completing the first BIORIGHTS project in India that has been showcased in 4th TEEB report of UNEP.

Purpose of Organization:

SAFE is a community based civil society organization working towards sustainable environmental development for poverty alleviation in south Asian ecoregion through partnership participation equity and reciprocity

Experience:

1. Succesfully completed the first BIORIGHTS project of India for restoration of East Kolkata Wetlands ramsar site and poverty alleviation
2. Succesfully installed the first Carbon Neutral Village of India in drought prone district Purulia of State of West Bengal through organic farming and alternative energy.
3. Piloted the first community based waste management programme for poverty alleviation and sustainable environment in urban slums of Kolkata metropolis through corporate social responsibility partnership.
4. Succesfully piloted bioengineering model for embankment stabilization in climate vulnerable sundarban delta of Bangladesh and Westbengal in India through community based mangrove plantation and REDD plus programme in partnership with UNEP EPLC
5. Working towards fish species conservation and poverty alleviation in East Kolkata Wetlands Ramsar site of West Bengal, India and redlisted crane conservation in high altitude wetlands of Bhutan.
6. Working towards integrated mountain development, GLOF and landslide early alert system in Nepal Bhutan and North eastern states of India.
