Experience:

•        Project “Sun Energy for Kyrgyzstan» has been functioning in Kyrgyzstan since 2005. The Project is realized by Ecological Movement “BIOM” and Norwegian Nature Conservation Society under the auspices (support or sponsorship) of the Government of Norway and Global Environmental Facility. The main goal of the Project is to promote reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through enhancement of Kyrgyzstan’s population potential in the sphere of solar energy utilization (use). Within the project sun exhibitions were established in all region of Kyrgyzstan, where visitors can see a wide range of solar stations, which can be home-assembled by people from villages of Kyrgyzstan using makeshift materials ( these materials can be purchased in the markets of Kyrgyzstan). Exhibitions are established at places of social significance: kindergarten, tourist centre, mosque, children’s home etc. Staff and visitors of these territories will be able to use solar stations for cooking, water heating and room lightning. For spreading of knowlede about technologies of using of sun energy we provided a special training course on building of solar collectors and barrels are held in 20 pilot villages of the Republic. And during each training course village families built 7 -10 solar stations for their communities. Women were involved in this process very actively. Just because they more of all suffer from the lack of warm water in the household. Now it is no need to spend electricity or to chop firewood for heating of water, solar energy is accessible for everyone. According to participants’ response for the past autumn and winter women and children were less ill with catarrhal diseases in households with solar stations. As result of cooperation we built the network «Sun Villages Kyrgyzstan», which is managed by our organization.
•        The Project “Sustainable decentralized management of sewage in Kyrgyzstan” started from December 2006 and time for project realization is 2 years. The Project is implemented by Ecological Movement “BIOM” in partnership with WECF network and Kyrgyz NGOs “Alga”, “Ulgu” and “Habitat – Kyrgyzstan”. The main purpose of the project is - to improve living conditions of rural population in Kyrgyzstan and to decrease level of anthropogenic pollution of the environment. As a result of the project activities Ecological Movement “BIOM” constructed 3 dry toilets with urine separation mechanisms at house farms in Chui and Issyk-Kul oblasts. At present time they created several demonstrative units, which are opened for all interested persons. Presentation of the project experience were held for people from more than 10 villages of Kyrgyzstan. As a result of the project in July 2007 BIOM organized summer ecological camp for NGOs – project partners in Tosor village near Issyk-Kul lake. Now the project is on the stage of monitoring, its experience is being spread in other villages, and a soil filter is preparing to be constructed.
