Ecoforum of Uzbekistan

Ecoforum of Uzbekistan (Ecoforum) was established in September, 2004 during the 1st Conference of environmental and social NGOs of Uzbekistan.
The Ecoforum realize 7 target programs:The program on public environmental monitoring, public ecological expertise and environmental law; Program on public participation in water issues; Information Program; Program for Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development; The program on public participation in the integrated development of mountain areas; The program for the conservation of biodiversity; Program to involve young people into active environmental performance. Ecoforum – member of the International Network of Organic Farming “Avalon”, Mountain Partnership, Earth Journalists Network, Public Council of the Central Asia.

Purpose of Organization:

Eco-Forum Goals:
- Unification of NGOs’ efforts for increasing effectiveness of public participation in development and implementation of national strategy on sustainable development;
- Promotion of conservation and rational use of natural resources to achieve sustainable development of the country;
- Promotion of civil society development based on the environmental values

GEF/SGP involvement:

The member of Eco-Forum take part in the GEF/UNDP project on "Improving the energy efficiency of social facilities in Uzbekistan." Eco-Forum took part in the UNDP / GEF project "Achieving Ecosystem Stability on exposed Aral seabed and the Kyzylkum Desert in Uzbekistan", the phase of PDF A. Ecoforum memeber implemented the project under the GEF small grants program "Restoration of riparian forests in the valley of Zarafshan - the potential biodiversity of the region". Eco-Forum took part in the the workshop on the dissemination of new procedures for obtaining funds from the GEF for the implementation of environmental projects and preparation of project proposals of the GEF (October, 2011). Eco-Forum representative was a coordinator the work of the commission for the selection of projects under the GEF Small Grants Program in Uzbekistan. Ecoforum representatives regularly participate in hearings and discussions of strategies and plans for the conventions: To Combat Desertification; On Biological Diversity; CLIMATE CHANGE

Experience:

I am closely involved in the technical expertise in environmental issues, as the general coordinator of the six targeted programs (The program on public environmental monitoring, public ecological expertise and environmental law; Program on public participation in water and land environmental issues; Program for Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development; The program on public participation in the integrated development of mountain areas; The program for the conservation of biodiversity; Program to attract young people into active environmental performance.
As a member of the Public Council of the CA Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development I have been involved in such work at regional level.
We take part in preparing a proposal for a National Report on the Environment Protection.
I was the expert of UNDP / GEF project "Achieving Ecosystem Stability on exposed Aral seabed and the Kyzylkum Desert in Uzbekistan".
Also, I am the coordinator of the regional and national projects:
Regional member joint initiative/ awareness raising project “Sensitizing public to rio+20 process”, Donor organization: Mountain Partnership, FAO;
"Support to the environmental initiatives of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, Donor organization: OSCE;
“Create a network of environmental journalists in Uzbekistan and carry out activities that will support this network”, Donor organization: Internews Europe
