Development Aid from People to People in Malawi

Development Aid from People to People in Malawi (DAPP in Malawi) is a member of the Federation for Associations connected to the International HUMANA PEOPLE to PEOPLE Movement. In short: HUMANA PEOPLE TO PEOPLE (HPP). The objective of DAPP in Malawi is to promote social and economic development. Through a variety of development models, DAPP complements the Governments effort in implementing the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS) to achieve the nation’s Vision 2020.The people engaged in the development initiatives of DAPP are trained and equipped with tools and knowledge enabling them to transform their dreams and wishes for a better life into practical actions. DAPP projects are focused on four of the pressing development issues in Malawi: (1) Improving food-security and economic growth; (2) Increasing access to quality education; (3) Improving children’s conditions AND (4) Fighting HIV & AIDS DAPP.

Purpose of Organization:

DAPP Malawi promotes social and economic development through a variety of development models, DAPP complements the Governments effort in implementing the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy to achieve the nation’s Vision 2020. The people engaged in the development initiatives of DAPP are trained and equipped with tools and knowledge enabling them to transform their dreams and wishes for a better life into practical actions.

Experience:

DAPP in Malawi as an implementing agency for the Government of Malawi (GoM). It has been involved in development of environmental policies and activities in focal areas of the GEF by virtue of being a Government implementing agency hence it is consulted on many GEF policy and activities. Some specific environmental activities DAPP has undertaken are;
1)       DAPP has planted approximately 5million trees while implementing projects in four interventions areas; Farmers Clubs, Child Aid, Total Control of the Epidemic and the DNS Teachers Training facilities
2)       DAPP has introduced the use of energy saving stoves on its various intervention; the Farmers Club, Child Aid programmes, Total Control of the Epidemic and DAPP Teachers Training facilities with subsequent replications to communities.
3)       DAPP introduced making of compost manure and the manufacturing and installation of approx. 2500 Rope and Washer pumps on its extension messages to Farmers Clubs and clusters and with communities benefiting during field days.
4)       DAPP has also introduced use of Solar light at Mikolongwe vocational school and is offering training in renewable energy. Communities around this facility does benefit in learning the benefit of the technology in terms of clean energy supply and cost.
