Forestry and Environmental Action

The organization fea was established in 2007 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a non-governmental organization, with the main purpose of advancing the state of environment and forests in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. Since fea’s inception, the guiding principle of our work has been to support authorities and communities, as well as the private sector, in the responsible use of natural resources in accordance with the legitimate demands of society.
We have provided practical professional support for a number of development initiatives. We have also prepared planning and implementing documents for several development initiatives focused on nature protection, local community development. In addition, our members have conducted applied research to support informed decision-making

Purpose of Organization:

In accordance with the Statue of the organization, the goals and work of fea. Forestry and Enviromental Action is in line with:
-       Connecting members with the aim to advance forestry sector, in accordance to the principles of sustainability,
-       Participating in development and implementation of projects focused on forestry, environmental protection, assessments of impacts on society and communities
-         Advancement and advocacy for protection of environment and forest eco-systems,
-       Implementing and supporting research aimed at sustainable use of natural resources,
-       Promoting participatory approach in planning and managment of natural resources,
-       Support to rural development and local communities,
-       Organizing and hosting professional meetings, seminars, workshops, round tables and other educational activities, with the aim to develop professional capabilities of its members
-       Sharing of information and knowledge, and raising avareness,
-         Publishing broshurs, fliers, bulletins, books and other publications aimd to promote activities of the organizaiton,
-       Sharing knowledge and information with similar organizations and other non-governmental organizations in the country and abroad,
-       Launching the initative with responsible authorities to establish optimal conditions for forestry and envrionment issues, through legislation and other legal means.

Experience:

fea has participated in the design and implementation of different activities related to biodiversity, clima change, and land degradation. Please find below the list of our activities:

Support to Implementation of the Project Support to Bosnia and Herzegovina for Development of National Action Programs Aligned to the UNCCD 10-Year Strategy and Reporting Process under UNCCD. Supported by UNEP, 2013.

Organization of Meetings in Order to Raise Awareness on Biodiversity and Land Degradation. Supported by UNEP, 2012.

Provision of expert inputs for the development of Institutional Capacity for the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to prepare the Red Lists. Beneficiary: Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism (GEF-WB supported), 2012.

Implementation of the Awareness Raising Campaign: Values and Positive Effects of Protected Areas in Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Supported by: Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism (GEF-WB supported), 2012.

Awareness raising campaign to for promoting biodiversity conservation and protected areas in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.(GEF-WB supported), 2012 - 2013.

Preparation and organization of the local community participation in the development of Management Plan for National Park Una. (GEF-WB supported), 2010 - 2011.

Development of training program and training materials on the international obligations of Bosnia and Herzegovina for environmental protection. Beneficiary: CRI BiH, 2011.

Development of the background study on the recreation and tourism potentials of forest areas in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as part of the preparation of Forest Strategy and National Forest Program, 2011.

Expert input with regards to biodiversity protection requirements and insights for the promotion and awareness raising with regards to Ramsar site Livanjsko polje in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Beneficiary: Canton 10 of FBiH 2010 - 2011.

Preparation of the publications and relevant materials for fighting against the invasive species in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Amorpha fructicosa

Applied research on the role of international organizations in the implementation of biodiversity conservation policies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2009.

Analysis and reporting on the findings of the rural development potentials of Kakanj and Vares region, as part of the preparation of Master Plan for tourism development. Beneficiary: SERDA, 2008.

Analysis, development of recommendations and action action plan for waste management in forestry and agriculture, as part of the preparation of Waste Management Strategy for the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Prepared for the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, 2007 - 2008.

Stakeholder analysis and design of framework for future stakeholder participation, as part of the development of a sourcebook on the consultation process for the establishment of protected areas, 2007.
