Centre For Eco-cultural Studies (CES)

CES was established in January 1998 by a group of interdisciplinary researchers whose aim was to create an institute for participatory eco-cultural development in Sri Lanka through research, education, awareness and community development. CES is registered as a Non-governmental research institute concerned with issues pertaining to the present eco-cultural status of Sri Lanka and advocates sustainable measures to suit the local environment and cultures. Collaborative undertakings with other eco-culture friendly institutes will create an extensive network to promote awareness and foster eco-cultural development in Sri Lanka.

In consolidating the work programme, the field research base and interpretation centre at Diyakapilla in Sigiriya established.

Experience:

Traditional Knowledge Policy of Sri Lanka was develop by The Biodiversity Secretariat of the Min. Of Environment, Sri Lanka was facilitated by CES and it was a brain child of CES. Since year 2003 CES has participated and played active roll in all most all the national Environmental Polices, action plans and strategies in various level and mostly on Biodiversity and forestry Sector.
